Did you know?

Working with Amigos - our chosen charity

There are many ways in which you can make a difference in this world. This is our way.

Global English has partnered with the UK charity Amigos to help alleviate child poverty in Africa. Based in Barnstaple, UK, Amigos is a local Christian charity who we have come to know and trust. Unlike some larger organisations, where money can go into high overheads or expensive administration, Amigos seeks to ensure that every donation is maximised. So every time you buy a course from Global English, a percentage of your course fee is donated to this worthy cause. As you read through these pages, you'll find out more about the work of Amigos and how you can help.

The Amigos Mission

To make a positive difference in the lives of widows, orphans and underprivileged people in sub-Saharan Africa. Providing care, education and vocational training, we will endeavour to empower the next generation of mothers and fathers to achieve their highest potential, helping them to become confident, caring and self-supporting individuals.

Here's how we help

We have been touched by the honest work of the members of the Amigos charity, so we have agreed to give 10% of all Global English profits to Amigos on an ongoing basis. This means that a portion of every product you buy from us goes to help educate young people in Uganda. Specifically, your donations go towards paying for the teachers at Kira Farm and helping to supply books and materials for their studies. You can find out more about the project here.

Money raised by sales of Global English courses is sent to Amigos every 3 months to support local teachers at the Kira Farm Development Centre, helping to educate the next generation of Ugandans.

So far, Global English trainees have helped us raise over £27,000 towards the work of Amigos in Uganda.

Help with education

Globally, around 100 million children cannot go to school - yet most people, including world leaders, see education as a route out of poverty. If you believe that 'education is the route out of poverty' then there are a number of ways in which you can help. International Singing Star Joss Stone helped to raise the £7,500 needed to build the first classroom at Kira Farm. Click here to hear Joss talk about the work of Amigos.
